In an act which shows pure kindness, a newborn girl who was crying out of hunger was breastfed by a hospital nurse as the baby's mother was unable to lactate, reported Times of India.
The nurse had given birth recently and was serving her night shift at RG Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata when she overheard a baby crying incessantly. She said it was extremely difficult for her to hear the newborn's cries for milk so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Usually, when a new mother is unable to breastfeed her baby because she hasn't started lactating, other new mothers in the maternity ward lend a helping hand in feeding the child. However, due to the fear of Covid-19 that has taken over people's lives, no one was ready to help out.
The nurse told TOI that unable to control herself from helping out the hungry baby, she didn't think twice before breastfeeding her. She received a call from her husband while she was doing so and he was a little apprehensive as well due to the current situation. She ensured him that she was following all hygiene-related steps and that there was nothing to worry about.
The new mothers who refused to pitch also have a reasonable explanation for not wanting to help out since at least 30 pregnant women have tested positive for COVID-19 in different hospitals in the city. However, doctors have claimed that even if a woman or her newborn baby is infected with the virus, the baby can be breastfed if precautionary measures are diligently followed.?
