India achieved a historic feat on August 23 when Chandrayaan-3 stuck a soft landing on the Moon¡¯s South Pole, becoming the first country to have ever descended upon that part of the Earth¡¯s moon. With it came a burst of cheer from around the world as different countries congratulated India for its success.
Among these countries was India¡¯s neighbouring country, Pakistan. While a majority of Pak folks went into denial and refused to commemorate India, there were those who cheered for their desi counterparts.?
A video from a recent news broadcast for Geo News has gone viral on Twitter, officially X, as two anchors are seen discussing India¡¯s milestone.? ?The two news reporters not only acknowledged India¡¯s accomplishment but also cheered for the nation for sending the South Asian region to the moon.
In their praise for India, the anchors said that they felt somewhat proud to see people who look like them and even dress like them reach such remarkable heights. They complimented India for not only how the operation was undertaken but also for the cheers the citizens of the nation demonstrated after the touchdown.??
However, it was not just the initial surprise of?Pakistani media?recognising India¡¯s success but also the fact that this feat had led many Paks to become self-reflective and concerned about their own country.
It was not the usual self-reflection that any other media anchor would usually partake in with facts and a bulky speech to move the people of a nation. But rather a more desi-fied version of cribbing and complaining about the state of the country. Any desi citizen would be familiar with the petty comparisons they end up drawing when something irks them. Well, from the looks of it, space and cricket seem to be the two places Pakistan and India can find common ground.
