Success takes time. One has to work hard and then patiently wait for the results. Dilkhush Kumar's story demonstrates this.?
Kumar is originally from a small village in Bihar and has worked as a rickshaw puller and vegetable vendor. He is now the founder and CEO of RodBez, a multibillion-dollar company.?
Who would have guessed that a rickshaw puller would one day become Bihar's startup icon? Everything is possible if you have the zeal and determination to work hard. This is Dilkhush Kumar's story.? ?
Dilkhush hired graduates from prestigious institutions like IIT Guwahati to work in Rodbez and share his vision. He also claimed that some IIM students have worked part-time for his startup.
Dilkhush is from the Bihar district of Saharsa. He studied till class 12 and worked as a rickshaw puller and vegetable vendor. He wanted to start his own business and provide taxi services in Bihar, which is how Rodbez came to be.?The startup is not like other taxi companies such as Uber or Ola. It is a database company connecting customers with taxi drivers and provides vehicles for longer-distance outstation travel of more than 50 kilometres.
According to their website, 'RodBez is Bihar's largest one-way taxi, taxi pool and carpool platform.' There is no longer a need to pay two-way or return fares when travelling one-way. Through carpooling, taxi pool and one-way rides, verified customers band together to help one another. You can ride with someone who is on your route and save money on transportation. You will find rides right outside your door.?
He was considered unpolished and uneducated when he went for an interview for the guard position. Dilkhush was also asked to?recognise?the logo of an iPhone, which he couldn't do because it was his first time seeing one. He never gave up, however, because he had a family to feed.?
He began Rodbez with nothing more than a used Tata Nano. Dilkhush and his team raised Rs 4 crore six to seven months after launching Rodbez. The company will initially provide service from Patna to every village in Bihar. It will connect cities in the second phase. Their goal is to have a taxi in every town in Bihar.?
They intend to expand their services beyond Bihar in the future. The compensation offered to drivers is the most appealing aspect of Rodbez. Dilkhush knows the drivers' circumstances, and the company pays them between Rs 55,000 and 60,000 monthly.
Dilkush, who was turned down for a job as a guard because of his lack of education, has now turned the tables. Rodbez has hired graduates from IIT Guwahati, and many IIM students are working part-time to help him realise his vision.
