A groom's $1000 wedding ring, which he had lost while swimming off the coast of a tiny Australian island, was recently found around the neck of a fish by a snorkeller.
The man, Nathan Reeves had gone for a swim with his wife, Suzie Quintal off the coast of Norfolk Island, where they were visiting their family. After the swim, Nathan realised that his wedding ring was no longer on his finger.?
Suzie said that she and her husband looked everywhere for the band without any success. Unfortunately, he had lost it just a day before their second anniversary.?
"He tried to look for it and then broke the news to me and I was not happy. I always tell him to take it off before he goes for a swim. He lost it a day before our second wedding anniversary," Suzie said.?
But luck was on their side as a snorkeller named Susan Prior, who runs Norfolk Island's Reef website, heard about Nathan's lost wedding band and went looking for it. She tracked down the couple on Facebook.?
Although odds were slim, Prior was lucky to find the missing jewellery lodged around the body of a mullet fish.
However, the band is yet to be removed as it poses an injury threat to the fish. According to Daily Mail, Susan said that the band can only be removed by catching the fish in a net.?
"The metal can only be removed by catching the fish in a net and gently removing it. The fish seems to be OK so far but as it grows, the ring will cut into it,"? Prior said.
Now, locals are working to source nets to catch the fish in order to retrieve the ring.
"It doesn't worry my husband, he doesn't understand all the fuss. I'm just worried about the poor little fish," said Suzie.
