Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi is at the center of controversy after Sunday¡¯s protest against the Citizen Amendment Act.Ever since violence broke out, social media channels have been buzzing with news, with a lot of misinformation also being spread.
One such video that has peaked the interests of peopleonline, is the one where Jamia women confronted the Delhi Police. In the video, the women formed a shield and covered their friend, as the cops continued to beat them.
As seen in the video, two cops were armed with heavy woodenlathis, and another man wearing a red shirt and helmet made people concoct severaltheories.
Twitterati widely shared the photo and at first, someone allegedthat the guy in the red shirt was a 'BJP goon' because he is wearinga orange/red shirt.
In the following tweets people questioned the Delhi Policeasking whether he was part of the Delhi Police team and why he was attackingJamia students.
Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also shared images that showed one man, dressed in an orange/red shirt with a helmet that hid his face, attacking protesters around him.
¡®Has anyone identified this creep in the red shirt? His faceis clearly visible? Is he even a cop? @DelhiPolice you doing something abouthim? @Vakeel_Sb can this guy be made the subject of an FIR?¡¯ reads on Tweet.
Barkha Dutt also shared the picture and wrote 'Disturbing images shared by #Jamia students, including below an unidentified masked man who students say is an example of those infiltrating their protests. There needs to be an independent assessment of what/who has triggered today's violence, which must be stopped ASAP @RizviUzair'.
Some reports clearly state that, the man in the red shirt was a copin civil clothes and was lashing out on the students just like the other cops.
Just as a picture started doing the rounds on social media, one Twitter user claimed to have figured who the man 'in red shirt' was.
The tweet above claims, 'the man in Red Tshirt who was seen hitting the girls with stick during Jamia protest is a ABVP Member Bharat Sharma,'
Reports are however, conflicting, and there's no clear evidence about the man's identity. At this stage, it's best to stay informed and not to fall for fake messages on social media.
Women students surrounded a fellow male student as police in riot gear beat him with sticks and kicked him. The two women in their 20s - Ayesha Renna & Ladeeda Farzana - are being called the unsung heroes of the protest.
In an interview, Ayesha shared the timeline of the incident, "We were at the back of the group. Around 5.30 pm, we saw people at the front running back and police charging towards us. We went inside the garage of a house and stayed there. There were nine of us girls and one boy. The gate couldn¡¯t be closed because a car was blocking it. A few policemen surrounded us outside and asked us to come out. They said they wouldn¡¯t hit us. We refused but suddenly one of them dragged the boy out and we were pulled out too. They then started hitting all of us with lathis," Ayesha Renna told Indian Express.
Ayesha is a history student and Ladeeda, a BA Arabic student - both of them hail from Kerala. They revealed in an interview with Barkha Dutt that their families are proud of them.?
