Reaping benefits of your hard work should never come at a cost of dissing someone else's lifestyle. Regardless of how much success you achieve in life, you should always be mindful of how your words or actions can hurt someone else.
A clear example of the privilege divide is this recent post by a LinkedIn user who received a ton of hate when she posted about 'struggles in life' on the job-searching platform.?
The same post was shared on Twitter - it said that a woman had bought a luxury car from her own hard-earned money despite the fact that she belongs to a wealthy family. However, what ticked people off was that while talking about her journey, the woman said that she 'struggled' in rickshaws and taxis before opening up her own foundation and 'other businesses'.?
'The lack of self awareness of some folks on LinkedIn truly amazes me,' reads the caption of the post on the microblogging website.?
The post has not gone down with people who fixated on her 'struggling in rickshaws and taxis' comment.?
Since majority of the people use public transport, using the term 'struggle' along with the same just because the woman bought a Mercedes came across as tone-deaf to everyone else.
'Posts like these why I avoid LinkedIn like the plague. That being said, it is good if they worked and got a luxury car, what does one get by making up stories of struggles that are so obviously of privilege,' wrote one user.
Another user commented, 'Linkedin the plague we need vaccine for.'
'Is this a parody post?' asked a third user.
