The world¡¯s oldest man, Masazo Nonaka died at the age of 113, peacefully at his home - hot springs inn. His family said that he died of natural causes in the early hours of Sunday while he was asleep.
Hailing from Japan¡¯s northern main island of Hokkaido, Nonaka grew up in a large family and forced his parents to run the inn - in which he died - which is now operated by his granddaughter.
He has also outlived his wife and three of his five children. ¡°We feel shocked at the loss of this big figure. He was, as usual, yesterday and passed away without causing our family any fuss at all,¡± his granddaughter, Yuko, told Kyodo News.
Nonaka was born in July 1905, according to Guinness World Records (Just FYI - Albert Einstein posted his special theory of relativity just months before Nonaka was born). He got married in 1931 and had five children.
Japan has one of the world¡¯s highest life expectancies and is home to several people who are among the oldest humans to have lived. This includes Jiroemon Kimura, the longest-living man on record, who died in June 2013 at the age of 116.
