Dancing can be hard for amateurs. Well, sure, when it comes to tapping to a few beats, all of us are game, but there are dance forms in the world that are so hard that only the most trained can perform them. One such art form is the Zaouli dance form.??
One such art form is the Zaouli dance form. A video of the dance is going around the internet, so hop on the viral train.?The video is taking off on the internet for its unique and incredible hard dance steps, which people online are having a hard time figuring out.
From the looks of it, the dance is being performed at a cultural event in Africa. The dance form is part of the tradition of the Guro people of central Ivory Coast. A very important part of the dance performance is the mask the dancer wears in the video.?The bright purple mask is known to have been designed somewhere around the 1950s, apparently after a girl named Djela Lou Zaouli.
After watching the video, many people online suggested that the dance looked incredibly difficult and could even be considered the most difficult dance in the world. The poster wrote in the caption, "This is the Zaouli dance of Central Ivory Coast and is labelled as the most impossible dance in the world!"
Check out the video below:
The video garnered almost 5 million views on?Twitter?and was complimented by many. In the video, the person dancing on the?drums shuffled their feet extremely fast on the muddy ground. The continuous use of the technique, paired with the gorgeous attire, made it look as though the performer was gliding on the ground, almost floating.
According to?UNESCO, the dance is "a tribute to feminine beauty. Zaouli is inspired by two masks: the Blou and the Djela. Its other name, Djela lou Zaouli, means Zaouli, the daughter of Djela. In a single event, the practice brings together sculpture (the mask), weaving (the costume), music (the band and song), and dance."?
The dance form is also an educational tool: "Zaouli plays an educational, playful and aesthetic role, contributes to environmental preservation, conveys the cultural identity of its bearers; and it promotes integration and social cohesion."
