Why did RCB not retain Mohammed Siraj?
Mohammed Siraj had a seven-season stint with RCB before being acquired by the Gujarat Titans for ?12.25 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Director of Cricket, MO Bobat, revealed the reasoning behind the team's surprising decision to release Mohammed Siraj, despite his impressive record. "Letting Siraj go was our toughest call," he admitted.
He added, "However, we wanted to enter the auction with as many options open as possible, especially to build a balanced bowling attack capable of competing effectively in the IPL and other formats."
Regarding their retention choices, he emphasised the importance of a strong Indian core. "Our retention decisions reflect this priority, and we felt our retained players were obvious choices based on their performance last season."
