Amid the ongoing IPL craze across the globe, franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad sparked major discussions online after they accused the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president of blackmailing and a hostile and threatening environment was created by its authorities at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.
On Monday, the Telangana Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, ordered an investigation into the matter, reported ToI. The accusations came to light two days ago, before the SRH vs. Delhi Capitals match; moreover, an inquiry into the allegations has been initiated.
The SRH team, owned by the Chennai-based Sun Group, wrote an email mentioning the unprofessional behavior by the HCA towards SRH. Srinath TB, the general manager, wrote a letter to HCA treasurer CJ Srinivas Rao highlighting such issues faced by the franchise this IPL season.
Just before the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Delhi Capitals, the SRH franchise accused the HCA of employing 'blackmailing tactics,' especially related to the demands for additional complimentary tickets or free passes.
In the letter addressed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League Governing Council, a high-ranking official from Sunrisers Hyderabad focused on the concerns regarding the ongoing developments with the HCA and their repeated blackmailing tactics towards the franchise, as per the officials.
Moreover, SRH also requested an intervention from the cricket governing bodies to address the situation and asked for better clarity over the matter.
On the other hand, SRH also warned HCA that if the matter doesn't get resolved, they might consider shifting their home matches to some other state. If this happens, it will be a potential consequence of the whole drama, and it may highly impact the team's operational plans.
HCA's response to the allegations
Amid the controversy going on, a response from the HCA president, A. Jagan Mohan Rao denied any such demands, claiming that the association had not engaged in any blackmailing.?
