Kim Soo Hyun was scheduled to attend a fan meeting in Taiwan on March 30th. However, due to his ongoing dating controversy involving Kim Sae Ron, the upcoming event has been cancelled.
Kim Soo Hyun's scheduled appearance at the 2025 Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival had sparked criticism, given the ongoing scandal surrounding him. Despite the controversy, the event organisers had been promoting the festival using his images on the website.
In anticipation of his planned appearance at the festival, Taiwan authorities had arranged for a significant security presence, with 50 police officers set to be deployed to maintain order and control the crowd, marking his first public appearance since the scandal broke.
Kim Soo Hyun's appearance at the 2025 Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival in Taiwan has been cancelled. The event's official Instagram account announced the cancellation on March 25, citing scheduling conflicts as the reason.
Fans who purchased tickets will receive a refund, and they can still attend the event for free to watch other performances. The refund process is set to begin on March 31.
"Those who purchased a ticket for March 30, 2025, will still be able to enter and watch the performances on that day. The organiser will begin the refund process on March 31, 2025, at 10 am. Those who purchased a ticket for March 30, 2025, can request a full refund," the official announcement read.
"Performing guest Kim Soo Hyun is unable to attend the event ¡®Kim Soo Hyun fanmeeting¡¯, originally scheduled for March 30, 2025, due to a schedule change. OPENPOINT points will be fully refunded to participating members. Sorry for the inconvenience caused," it added.
The controversy began when Kim Sae Ron's aunt appeared on the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, hosted by former media reporter Kim Se Ui (Kim Say). During the appearance, the aunt made allegations against actor Kim Soo Hyun, claiming that his actions were responsible for the actress¡¯s suicide.
According to a phone conversation between Kim Sae Ron¡¯s aunt and Kim Se Ui, Sae Ron and Soo Hyun allegedly began dating in 2015, when she was 15 and he was 27. Their relationship reportedly lasted for six years, until 2021.
The aunt further revealed that the couple broke up in 2022, following Kim Sae Ron¡¯s widely publicised drunk driving incident. At the time, Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist, offered to handle the situation after Kim Sae Ron initially expressed her intention to resolve it on her own. However, the agency later sent a legal notice demanding repayment of 700 million KRW, which put Kim Sae Ron under significant mental stress. She reportedly reached out to Kim Soo Hyun for help but received no response.
Gold Medalist has denied the aunt¡¯s claims, confirming that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron did date but only after they were both legal adults. The agency also clarified that the legal notice sent to Kim Sae Ron was simply a formality.
Kim Sae Ron died by suicide on February 16, on Kim Soo Hyun's birthday.
