Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the 14-year-old cricketer and Indian Premier League (IPL) debutant, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at Patna airport following his impressive performance for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team during the league.
Prime Minister Modi later shared a post on his X (formerly called Twitter), celebrating the young talent's remarkable achievement.
"At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours," the caption of the post read.
In the heartwarming moment that underscores India's growing passion for cricket, the prime minister's meeting with the IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi reflects the country's deepening engagement with sports and youth empowerment.
Suryavanshi, who became an overnight sensation in India after delivering a stellar performance in IPL 2025, has returned to his hometown, as RR failed to qualify for the playoffs. The young cricketer was accompanied by his family during the meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the young cricketer's skills and said his talent is admired across the country and also wished him the best for his future endeavours.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's cricket journey kicked off at the age of 13 when the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise bought him for 1.1 crore during the mega auction that was held last year in Jeddah.
The cricketer made his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19, 2025, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. This was the match when the player struck a six in his very first ball that he faced from Shardul Thakur.
Since that day, Vaibhav hasn't turned around and kept getting bigger and bigger. He established a solid opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, scoring 252 runs at an average of 36 and an outstanding strike rate of 206.55 in seven games.
