Our Unwritten Seoul X review: If chasing great scripts were an Olympic sport, Park Bo Young would take home the gold for South Korea. After stealing hearts with the slow-burn romance Melo Movie alongside Choi Woo Shik, the talented actress is back in Our Unwritten Seoul, and once again, she¡¯s at the top of her game, this time taking on a challenging double role. Also starring Jinyoung of Got7, the tvN drama premiered its first episode on Sunday (May 24), and the first reviews suggest it's another masterpiece from Park Bo Young.
Our Unwritten Seoul follows twin sisters, Yu Mi Rae and Yu Min Ji, who have been each other's biggest support since birth, but adulthood slowly pulls them apart. Mi Rae is an academic genius, while Min Ji was once a rising sports prodigy until an unexpected injury abruptly ended her athletic career.
Now, as adults, their lives couldn¡¯t be more different. Min Ji is a free-spirited soul taking on odd jobs just to get by, living one day at a time. Mi Rae, on the other hand, works a corporate job and quietly suffers under the weight of workplace bullying. When Min Ji decides to visit her sister after sensing her growing distance, she's devastated by what she learns. Mi Rae opens up about her mental burnout, the crushing isolation she feels, and how she sometimes wishes for an injury, just to get a few days off work. The confession breaks Min Ji¡¯s heart.
In a desperate attempt to help, Min Ji makes a bold move: she secretly starts showing up at the office, pretending to be Mi Rae. Meanwhile, Jinyoung plays their neighbor, Lee He Soo, a kind-hearted and diligent lawyer who starts falling for Min Ji, unaware that she¡¯s not actually Mi Rae.
With just one episode in, fans are already hooked on Our Unwritten Seoul, praising its raw, honest portrayal of burnout and the emotional toll of office life.
One user wrote, ¡°Episode 1 was promising. #ParkBoYoung did her job well, playing two characters as twins¡ªand in the next episode, she¡¯ll be playing four characters because their lives were switched. So proud of her! This is her comeback to TV dramas after four years.¡±
Another commented, ¡°Love how they started this show, but what I love the most is the bond between the twins, Yoo Mi Ji and Yoo Mi Rae. Mi Ji deciding to live again like her sister¡ªit¡¯s going to be a healing journey for both of them.¡±
A third viewer shared, ¡°Bo Young absolutely owned that scene. She portrayed Mi Ji¡¯s fear of losing her sister and Mi Rae¡¯s pain at seeing her sister willing to die with her rather than let go¡ªso beautifully.¡±
One fan penned: ¡°Just when you think you¡¯ve seen her best, #ParkBoYoung proves you wrong every time. It¡¯s blowing my mind how she executed this. What an incredibly talented actress.¡±
?Meanwhile, according to Nielsen Korea, Our Unwritten Seoul opened strong, with its first episode earning an average nationwide rating of 3.628% and an even higher 4.193% in Seoul¡ªranking No. 1 among cable TV dramas. The second episode is set to premiere on May 25 on tvN. International viewers can stream the new Park Bo Young starrer on Netflix.
