To promote gender equality and women's empowerment, the?Delhi Police?will march an all-female contingent down the Kartavya Path during the 75th?Republic Day?parade on January 26, officials announced on Tuesday.
This will be the first time in the force's history that the marching contingent will be made up entirely of women, according to them, with the northeastern states accounting for 80% of the participation this year.?
According to Delhi Police, the department has a policy of recruiting people from the eight northeastern states to "bridge the gap" between the police and the people in that region.
Shweta K Sugathan, a woman IPS officer, will lead the march of the force's 194 female chief constables and constables, according to an officer.
He stated that the participants practice daily on the Kartyava Path.According to Special Commissioner of Police (Armed Police) Robin Hibu, all of the participants are "very excited" to be participating in the parade for the first time.?
"The marching contingent has been selected from the armed unit of our force, and the majority of them are from the northeastern states," Hibu said, adding that they will represent the people of the northeast in the Delhi Police.?
Hibu stated that the Delhi Police has put another feather to its cap this year since the women's pipe band would be conducted by a female officer, constable Ruyangunuo Kense.?
He stated that the "Delhi Police Song" will be played by a band of 135 chief constables and constables. Last year, a female dedicated pipe band entered the procession, but it was led by a male inspector, Rajendra Singh.?
Another officer stated that the all-female marching contingent will "definitely be a centre of attraction" during the parade.?
