An exciting new study is out there enticing couch potatoes. According to new research soaking in a hot tub could be as beneficial for health as a quick run.
A new study from Coventry University in the UK has recently found some shocking new results about the health benefits of soaking in a hot tub.
Dr Tom Cullen, assistant professor of research at the Coventry Center for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences told The Sun, ¡°The healing effects of water stretch back centuries, and hot water immersion or hot water healing is practised for spiritual, mindful and health reasons all over the world.¡±
The study was conducted at Coventry University, UK.
Following their time in the hot tub, participants experienced a notable 345% average increase in blood flow to their legs, which is comparable to the effect of a 30-minute jog, as per the researchers.
After spending time in the hot tub, participants' heart rates were equivalent to those of individuals who had engaged in brisk walking, averaging 31 beats per minute.
Aside from reducing blood pressure, the hot tub experience led to a 22% decrease in cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for managing stress in the body.
Possibly as a result of the decrease in cortisol, 10% of the participants reported feeling less anxious overall. Dr Mariyam Hassan Malik, who was not part of the Coventry research, highlighted that hot tubs have a muscle-relaxing effect and stimulate the release of endorphins, which aid in stress reduction.
Cullen and his colleagues examined the emotions, heart rate, blood pressure, blood circulation, cortisol levels, perception of heat, and anxiety of a group of healthy individuals aged 26 to 60.?
The participants in the research took part in three 30-minute sessions over three days, relaxing in a Lay-Z-Spa Majorca Hydrojet Pro, a square hot tub that accommodates up to six people.
