According to reports, nearly 50,000 people in 153 organisations worldwide have lost their jobs in the first 20 days of 2023.
As a matter of fact, major tech businesses such as Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce have laid off employees. Google is the latest company to lay off 12,000 people worldwide during the worst of times.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, accepted responsibility and expressed regret. Salesforce, Vimeo, and Swiggy have also laid off some of their employees. Some of the fired employees were said to have been with the companies for many years.
LinkedIn has been inundated with heartfelt remarks from long-term employees lamenting the apathy and mocking of these firms despite working as devoted employees for many years.
One former Microsoft employee wrote on LinkedIn about how getting dismissed stings so much after working for the company for 21 years.
Going into greater detail on the subject, a Linkedin user named Abhishek Ganti has questioned the purpose of loyalty if firms do not respect it.
In the post, he cited examples of long-serving Microsoft and Google employees who were laid off as part of the recent mass layoffs.
"One person spent 21 years at #Microsoft and got laid off. And another one spent 16 years at #google and met with a similar fate. Their access to systems were cut off and they were informed by an email about their lay off," Ganti wrote in the linkedin post.?
He further remarked to all HRs in the post that they "don't grill candidates on frequent shifts and fidelity. And, rhetorically, asked why employees should be loyal when corporations do not reward loyalty.
So far, his LinkedIn post has received over 70,000 reactions and hundreds of likes and comments. A lady wrote, "You'r shouting at the wrong pole. When decisions are made at management level, why is the accusation on one department and mock them if you don't understand their importance?"
A finance analyst also wrote, "You are indeed right but HRs are also bound to follow instructions as they are one of us, so the actual problem is in the hierarchy and upper level management of the company. They just use ground level as per their convenience, and undoubtedly this is what practicality is. Even if it¡¯s unfair it is what it is?Abhishek Ganti."
However, Gati clarified, "To everyone here:?I am not blaming any HR. I am just pointing out that value of loyalty seems to be dimishing in present times. So they should not reject/grill candidates for frequent changes.?That's It!"??
