Every year after Diwali, Delhi-NCR feels almost like a smoke chamber. The onset of winters only makes things worse, creating breathing problems for many. In an effort to control the rising air pollution levels in Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) set up an 'anti-smog gun' at Central Park in Connaught Place on July 13.?
Chairperson of the NDMC, Dharmendra along with Amit Singla, secretary, and other officials of the civic body inaugurated the machine. It has been set up on trial basis to see how successful it is basis which more such machines may or may not be installed.
The machine reportedly costs Rs 13 lakh and can cover an area measuring up to 27,000 to 37,000 square metres (sqm). This cannon-like dust suppression machine can help reduce pollution by spraying atomised water into the atmosphere, according to officials.?
"The anti-smog gun is designed to create an ultra-fine fog consisting of very fine water droplets (less than 10-micron size) of atomised water. These tiny water droplets are thrown in the larger area with the help of high-speed fans, which absorb even the smallest dust particles in the air," The Indian Express?quoted an NDMC official as saying.?
The machine is supposed to clear dust and pollution particles from the environment and reduce PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels. More anti-smog guns might be placed by NDMC at India Gate, Gole Market, Sarojini Market and major intersections like AIIMS and Dhaula Kuan.

"We will examine the performance of the anti-smog gun and may employ more machines accordingly at India Gate, Rajpath, and Metro or other construction sites. Soon, the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) will start massive construction in Sarojini Nagar and these machines can help to bring down dust pollution levels there," the official reportedly.?
In 2018, the Delhi government had installed an anti-smog gun at Anand Vihar one of the most polluted spots in the city, as a trial.?

The installation was supposed to tackle poor air quality. The device sprayed water into the air to help pollutants settle. It was connected to a water tank and was portable. However, the machine was less effective in containing the levels of particulates.??
Here¡¯s hoping that the newly installed anti-smog gun proves to be a breather for Delhi.?
