Babies are often the ones who suffer through the cold harsh winters the most. Their tiny little bodies are yet unequipped to provide them with the warmth they need to survive and they also don¡¯t have much mobility to assist themselves get warm easily. Thus, winters pile on extra work and precaution for parents with small children.
However, according to a new video doing rounds on the internet, Nordic parents do not suffer through any such hurdle. Instead of fretting over their child¡¯s health during winter, they prefer to leave their babies in strollers outside in the cold.
As absurd as it sounds, the practice is real and quite popular among Norwegian parents. TikTok user Olly Bowman shared a video of himself walking through the streets of Norway when he encounters a packed line of baby strollers outside, unattended.?
The Australian national explained that this was a common practice among Norwegian people where they leave their babies packed inside their strollers, lounging outside in the open. He captioned his video, ¡°Another day in Norway, another group of babies left out alone in the cold.¡±?
As Olly panned over the numerous strollers parked outside, he explained how in Norway people leave their babies in the cold to acclimate them to the winters in the country. He reveals that parents adopt such a ¡°hardcore¡± practice so that the babies can adapt to the cold weather of the region which can go as low as minus 50 degrees celsius in the harshest of winters.?
Well, apparently leaving babies outside is not a new practice in the country, rather has been a tradition followed since the early 20th century. At the beginning of the century, a tuberculosis epidemic shook the country. Subsequently, in 1926, Dr David Thorsteinsson published a pedagogy book explaining the benefits of outdoor life and fresh air in order to strengthen the immune system of young babies.?
The doctor suggested that parents invest in the new strollers trending at the time and let their children sleep outside during the day. Hence, a new tradition was kickstarted as parents started to partake in the "viral" practice. The same tradition has lasted till now as?Nordic parents have no problem leaving their babies out in the open without much surveillance.?
A similar case of unattended strollers recently came to light when images from Denmark went viral on the Internet, showing how the trust-woven citizens of the country are comfortable leaving their babies outside in a stroller.?
