Meat-eating in China has been a topic for discussion ever since the world was hit by the novel coronavirus. People started pointing out the endless wild animals that are devoured in the South Asian country and it became a matter of concern for the rest of the world.?
There are some obvious dangers to eating animals - especially raw - and evidence of the same is an incident recently reported from China.
According to reports, a Chinese man lost half his liver after eating undercooked fish. Based on his medical reports, parasitic flatworms in the fish laid eggs inside the man's liver.?

The 55-year-old patient went to get checked after he started suffering from a loss of appetite, diarrhoea, fatigue and abdominal pain. Hangzhou First People's Hospital stated in its report that the man had been struggling with this for more than four months before he sought medical help for the same.??
Doctors were quite taken aback when they saw scans of the patient which showed the left lobe of his liver occupied by a pus-filled sac measuring 19 cm long and 18 cm wide. Other than that, tumours had started growing on the walls of the sac.

The man was put through a series of tests and was later diagnosed with clonorchiasis which is an infection caused by parasitic flatworms. In order to save the man's life, doctors had to drain fluids from the growth and eventually managed to reduce its size by half.?
However, his health did not see any progress as the tumours remained on the liver three weeks after the first procedure. Having no other option left, the surgeons removed the infected section of the liver and found numerous light-bulb shaped eggs in the dead tissue.
The patient informed his doctors that he had eaten undercooked fish, and it is believed that the seafood was ridden with flatworms and later hatched eggs in the man's liver.
