In what could be a major move towards inclusion of the members of the transgender community into mainstream workforce, officials of the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) told the Union home ministry that they will recruit transgender persons to the officer cadre post of assistant commandants.
¡°The CRPF already has a gender-neutral work environment. In view of impending policy guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), we shall make it further compatible as per the need,¡± HT quoted director general A P Maheshwari said.
Speaking for BSF, its director general who is also Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) chief, SS Deswal, said that they have no objection.?
The ITBP and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Centre are expected to respond soon.?
The home ministry asked for the views of central paramilitary forces (CAPF) about adding transgender as the third gender category in relevant application forms before the annual examination for recruiting assistant commandants that will be held in December.?
Home ministry has directed all central government departments to include transgender as a separate category for recruitment for all posts, including civil services.

Currently, there is no provision to hire transgender people in central paramilitary forces.?
Vidya Rajput, a member of the Chhattisgarh Transgender Welfare Board said that while it is a welcome move there must be additional seats for transgender people across the government posts.?
