The US Coast Guard confirms that debris discovered on the sea floor confirms the catastrophic loss of the Titanic submersible.
In a recent news conference, Rear Adm. John Mauger of the US Coast Guard informed reporters that the additional debris discovered on the sea floor on Thursday is consistent with the devastating destruction of the pressure chamber belonging to the submersible, which vanished on Sunday.
OceanGate, the company responsible for operating the deep-sea submersible bound for the Titanic, issued a statement on Thursday, expressing their belief that all five individuals aboard the vessel, including their CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have tragically lost their lives.
"We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost," OceanGate said in a statement.
"These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world¡¯s oceans. Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew."
They extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of these five individuals, emphasizing the immeasurable loss of life and the immense joy they brought to everyone around them.
This development follows the recent discovery of a debris field near the Titanic in the search area, as the US Coast Guard reported. According to a memo that CNN obtained, the debris is believed to have come from the submersible's external structure.
