Edgardo Greco, 63, was taken into custody in Saint-Etienne, France, on Thursday, February 2, where the dangerous mafia boss was working under the alias Paolo Dimitrio as a pizza chef at the Italian restaurant Caffe Rossini.??
Greco is associated with the Calabrian crime syndicate "Ndrangheta." The mafia boss was convicted back in 1991 in absentia for the brutal murders of brothers Stefano and Giuseppe Bartolomeo.?It has been alleged that Greco killed the brothers with iron bars before dissolving their entire bodies in acid, as per CCN.
Greco evaded Italian law for years after being convicted of the crime. Nicola Gratteri, the anti-mafia prosecutor heading the investigation, described the convict as a "dangerous fugitive." Besides the brothers he killed, the mafia killer is also known for gutting prison officials, which earned him the name "prison killer."
Gratteri found his initial inklings of Greco in an article by the French newspaper Le Progres, which the restaurant the mafia boss worked at posted on its official Facebook page. The police officials in Calabria also confirmed that the fugitive frequently posted on social media under his alias.
Before Greco, another mafia boss was captured not long ago by the?Italian?anti-mafia police. Two weeks prior to Greco¡¯s arrest, the Sicilian Cosa Nostra's big boss, Matteo Messina Denaro, was apprehended in a health clinic in Palermo, Sicily,?on January 16.
According to the anti-mafia police, there are still four major mafia?bosses roaming the world free, along with numerous other lesser figures on the run. Pasquale Bonavota, Giovanni Motisi, Renato Cinquegranella, and Attilio Cubeddu are the four main bosses. These mafia bosses are still in hiding since they were convicted of heinous crimes decades ago.
The anti-mafia Italian squad has been working around the clock to catch these people.
