In happy news, Mumbai?has finally got its first transgender-owned and operated salon. The trans community faces extreme discrimination and ridicule by people in India on a daily basis even today. Even with a constant fight afloat, the community lacks safe spaces around the country.?
So,?the conception of a trans-owned and operated salon safe for queer people to frequent has been a ray of hope for the community. Run by seven transgender people, the salon has taken its first steps in changing the status quo.
The rainbow salon is owned by Zainab, a trans person part of the queer community. Zainab opened up about starting the salon and shared that the space is a very important step to empower the people of the trans community. She also shared that her salon is dedicated to providing training and employment to the community.
The Deutsche Bank and the Rotary Club of Bombay collaborated with Zainab to open the doors to the salon. This small step will prove to be a big milestone for the transgender community that has been neglected and discriminated against for far too long in the country.
Back in 2021, Trans activists and celebrities Aryan Pasha and Laxmi Narayan Tripathi launched the first rainbow salon in India and called it ¡®La Beaut¨¦ & Style¡¯. The salon is located in the border area of Delhi near the Dilshad Extension area in the Ghaziabad area.?
Pasha, a lawyer, activist and India¡¯s first transgender male bodybuilder told Indiatimes about the motivation behind opening the place, ¡°We are a place not just of, by and for transgenders but people of all sexual identities and orientations.¡±?
The salon is open to all and not just a space for queer folks. The owners insist on treating every client as special and want to create a safe and comfortable space for all.
