Gen Z employees are notorious for their frank and sometimes surprising reasons for taking time off from work. These young employees don't hesitate to share their actual requirements, whether it's to get a haircut, look after a sick pet mouse, care for a despondent cat, or just because they're feeling sluggish.
Jamie Lynch, a Millennial employer, has published some of these creative and funny reasons on Instagram. Her tweets have struck a chord with social media users, particularly fellow managers, who find the videos both sympathetic and funny.
Lynch did, however, reveal that some of her employees are dissatisfied with the public attention, particularly the harsh remarks they are receiving. Regarding her staff, she told Newsweek,?¡°They have very strong personal boundaries when it comes to their wellbeing. I respect this about them because when I was their age, my managers would tell me I was fired if I called in sick. Sometimes they are hard to motivate, and they call in for crazy reasons, but they are fun and give us a fresh perspective. I am also a little jealous of their personal boundaries, I still haven¡¯t used a vacation day this year as I am so dedicated to my job."
The Millennial manager reported that her videos received a lot of good feedback, with many viewers sharing similar experiences with their own employees. She is still inspired to generate more content, recognizing the distinct energy that Gen Z employees bring to the workplace.
While their unusual leave requests make her chuckle, she appreciates the new viewpoint they provide and the entertaining environment they contribute to, which improves the dynamics of her team.
