Earlier this year, Pakistan¡¯s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, had announced a ban on the social media platform X, citing national security concerns and claiming that members of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were allegedly using the platform to promote anti-national activities.?
Despite the ban, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted a congratulatory post to Donald Trump on X, which drew strong reactions from social media users.?
The post is now viral, with over 1.7 million views.
One user commented, "If hypocrisy had a human face, it would be Shehbaz Sharif," while another, tagging Elon Musk, remarked, ¡°Mr. Trump, this joker is using VPN to congratulate you... Btw, Elon Musk¡¯s platform is banned in Pakistan!¡±
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Pakistan¡¯s Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stated that Pakistan¡¯s long-standing relationship with the United States would remain unaffected by Trump¡¯s return to office, emphasising Pakistan¡¯s commitment to deepening ties across various fields.?
¡°This relationship has remained unaffected by developments around the world. So we do not need to even consider the possibility that this relationship will be affected by any domestic development in another country,¡± Baloch added.?
When asked about any potential impact on Pakistan-China relations, she affirmed that Islamabad¡¯s relationship with Beijing is ¡°all-weather, strategic, and a stabilizing force¡± in the country¡¯s foreign policy.
