On this day, the role of dogs in human life throughout the history is celebrated. In Hindu mythology a dog is considered to guard the gates of afterlife. Even if you keep the tradition aside, we know from experience that having dogs as pets and companions is one of the most fulfilling things ever. They are loyal, sensitive to our emotions and only expect affection and love in return. For all this and much more, they deserve a day in the year especially dedicated to them.?
During Kukar Tihar, dogs, pets and strays are garlanded and a tika (red mark) is applied on their forehead and they are all treated with food. When Joy?Bhattacharjya?tweeted about the festival, here's how people reacted.
If you have a dog around you, treat them special today, one day of your kindness can make them forever loyal to you. Also bursting crackers really scares and frightens them, let us ensure we do not do that. Happy Kukur Tihar and happy Diwali to all!?
