Face masks, face shields and hand sanitisers are just a few things that have become a part of our lifestyle after the outbreak of COVID-19. While initially there was a dearth of surgical masks in the market, now it seems there are whole sorts of options to choose from.
Capitalism has managed to bank on even the pandemic, it seems. From?customised gold masks?to?jewellery shops selling diamond studded masks, we thought we'd seen it all. That is until this fashion brand announced it will soon be launching a ¡®luxury¡¯ face shield.?
Louis Vuitton is set to launch its first face shield. It will come with the brand's monogram and gold studs. According to Vanity fair, the face shield will be available for sale from October 30. It has been priced at $961 (Rs 70,610, approximately).?
The move is apparently an attempt to make personal protective equipment a fashion and luxury statement. The shield is a part of Louis Vuitton's 2021 Cruise collection; it includes an elastic monogrammed strap attached to the shield along with gold studs engraved with the LV logo.

The face shield serves two other purposes. It can be worn as a hat by flipping the shield upwards and the shield comes with a transition lens technology that can turn from clear to dark, depending on the sunlight.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the brand produced hundreds of thousands of non-surgical protective masks, along with transforming its RTW (Ready-To-Wear) atelier in Paris to create hospital gowns.
Not just LV, brands like Fendi, Palm Angels, Marine Serre and Cristian Siriano have also come up with their own versions of luxurious personal protective equipment.?
Something as simple as a mask to protect oneself from coronavirus has been capitalised on by brands on varying levels. While making it a part of fashion might makes sense to some, many do not see the point in having gold and diamond-studded masks.
