Monsoon season makes the road conditions across India worse. Mumbai gets flooded every year and the roads become dangerous. We saw some weeks ago, how a woman stood in the middle of one Mumbai road to ensure that the other people on the road knew about a manhole in the road and no one fell into it. She stood there for five hours because there was no sign on the road warning commuters.?
The video of her doing so went viral on social media and people applauded her selflessness.?
Now a BEST driver and conductor and Mumbai have done the task of the state authorities.?
When a bus driver hit a pothole on the Mulund-Bhandup route, and experienced a severe jerk due to it, he did not just move on ahead on the road, like most drivers would have done. According to a TOI report, the BEST bus driver and conductor filled that pothole.
?Apparently the passengers were inconvenienced because of the jerk; the driver and conductor decided to temporarily fix the pothole with sand.
It is not the first time that people have taken the work of the authorities in their hands.?
In January this year, miffed with the state machinery¡¯s failure to fix potholes on Faridabad roads, telecom engineer Manoj Wadhwa and a few of his friends took it upon themselves to fill up some potholes. This came after Wadhwa¡¯s loss - his three-year-old son died in a pothole-related road accident on the Delhi-Agra highway six years ago.
Wadhwa went through tutorials on how to fill potholes. He then reached the site with three bags of mixed bitumen and other necessary items.
He fixed some potholes on the Delhi-Agra highway and believes if there were no potholes there in February 2014, his son might have been alive.?
The state authorities should take note of the BEST bus driver and conductor¡¯s action and permanently fill the pothole they temporarily fixed.?
