According to an Economic Times report, travellers vaccinated with Covishield may not be eligible for the European Union 'Green Pass'. The 'Green Pass' is being launched to enable easy travel into and between EU countries.?
The report said that the digital 'vaccine passport' recognises the?Vaxzevria version of the AstraZeneca NSE -0.22 % vaccine that is produced in the UK and Europe, and approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Covishield is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India and is not yet recognised by the EMA.
The EMA is the agency of the European Union which is responsible for the evaluation and supervision of medicinal products - It has approved only four COVID-19 vaccines so far -?Comirnaty (BioNTech-Pfizer), Moderna, Vaxzevria (Oxford-AstraZeneca) and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson).?
EU member states that issue the Green Pass must accept these four vaccines, but are free to accept others as well.?
Iceland was the first country in Europe to reopen borders for the vaccinated and said that only those who have received a vaccine authorised by EMA or the WHO would benefit from border reopening.?
France also said that it will facilitate travellers from the EU, the?Schengen area and other countries, will also facilitate easy entry for those vaccinated with an EMA-approved vaccine, and not those being administered in Russia and India.?
The Digital Covid Certificate will be launched on July 1 and will allow holders to move freely within the European Union.
