Just days after his son's wedding, the father of OYO founder Ritesh Agarwal, Ramesh Agarwal, reportedly fell from a high-rise building on Friday and passed away.
"He was taken to Paras Hospital for treatment. A team and SHO Sector 53 visited the place of occurrence. During an inspection of the place of occurrence, the fallen person was identified as Ramesh Prasad Agarwal. He was brought dead to Paras Hospital," the police said.
"With a heavy heart, my family and I would like to share that our guiding light and strength, my father, Shri Ramesh Agarwal, passed away on March 10. He lived a whole life and inspired me and so many of us every single day. His death is a tremendous loss for our family. "
"My father's compassion and warmth saw us through our toughest times and carried us forward. His words will resonate deep in our hearts. We request everyone respect our privacy in this time of grief," he added.
According to Vij, an inquest was held under Section 174 of the CrPC, and police recorded a family member's statement. Once the autopsy was completed, the family was handed the body back.
Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code relates to cases of unnatural death.
The Agarwals had just hosted a reception for Ritesh Agarwal's wedding, during which Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other prominent startup founders and investors, including SoftBank's Masayoshi Son, were in attendance.??
Union minister Prahlad Patel also congratulated Ritesh Agarwal and his bride Geetansha Sood by posting a picture of themselves with the couple online.
Mr. Agarwal, at just 19, launched OYO in 2013 and is one of the country's youngest billionaires. The Japanese multinational corporation Softbank is its largest investor.
