Researchers had set a trap to catch bats coming from three different caves in Sai Yok National Park in Kanchanaburi, Thailand's western province. A team from the Thai Red Cross Infectious Diseases Health Science Center took saliva, blood and stool samples from bats. They were then released. Specimens from not just horseshoe bats but also other species of bats were collected. These samples were studied to understand which pathogens these bats carry.
