They say that "a woman is her own worst enemy," a notion that often fuels stereotypes about women being pitted against each other. But a recent viral video seems to put this idea in the spotlight. Posted by content creator Tanny Bhattacharjee, the footage captures an elderly woman in Bengaluru chasing and berating her for wearing shorts.?
Check out the video here:
In the video, the elderly woman is seen angrily pointing at Bhattacharjee and shouting, "Ask her not to show her bum," referring to Bhattacharjee's gym shorts.?
Despite Bhattacharjee's attempt to defuse the situation by crossing the road, the woman persisted, stopping passersby to condemn her attire and shouting, "You shouldn't wear clothes like this and roam around."
When passersby asked if Bhattacharjee was her daughter, the woman replied, "She is this country's girl. She can't wear clothes like this."
Bhattacharjee emphasises that this confrontation occurred in a public space, not a place of worship, and asserts, "We don't deserve this."

In the comments, the majority voiced support for Bhattacharjee.?
One user criticised the elderly woman's behavior, saying, "What's wrong with this lady. She embarrassing her self in public with this behavior. On top that lady is a stranger. Imagine some stranger giving comments on your clothing or choices etc."
However, some took a different view, suggesting that the woman's intentions were to protect women from harassment.?
One commenter noted, "I am a person who goes by the adage live and let love but we should be mindful of the kind of society we live in...if it's the USA or UK it's fine ppl don't bother but Indians have a very long way to go as far as mindset is concerned."
Although the elderly woman had no right to dictate Bhattacharjee's attire, this perspective does highlight the ongoing challenge of conservative attitudes in India and the slow progress toward accepting diverse personal choices.
