The coronavirus lockdown has led to massive economic devastation and joblessness. Amid this crisis, migrants across the country have been left hopeless and hungry.
Now, there are multiple videos on social media which expose their sorry plight and state of utter desperation.?
Many of these migrants have allegedly been seen looting vending machines, food packets and water bottles at different railway stations.?
In an incident that took place at Old Delhi railway station on Friday, numerous migrant workers desperate for food and water were seen looting a push-cart of food and water cartons. A video of the alleged incident has gone viral.?
According to an NDTV report, the?cart, with four cartons of snacks, possibly chips, biscuits and other packed products and water bottles was stopped at the platform by a couple of men and within minutes a crowd swarmed to get their hands on it.?
No railway officials or police officers were reportedly present to restore order.?
In yet another incident, migrant workers travelling in a special train allegedly ransacked a food vending machine at Jabalpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh, on May 16.
The incident occurred early Friday on platform number 5 of the railway station when some migrants travelling in Mumbai-Danapur special train damaged a vending machine of packaged food items and cold drinks, an official said.
"Packaged eatable items have been removed from vending machines installed on platforms of railway stations, after a video showed passengers taking away eatables from the machine," WCR Chief Public Relation Officer Priyanka Dixit told PTI.
Dixit said the Railways has been providing food and water to passengers at the designated stations under WCR.?Some of the vendors who owned the machine lodged a complaint with the GRP regarding the incident.
