Passengers traveling from Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport will greatly benefit from this terminal, which will double the airport's passenger handling capacity as well as the number of immigration and check-in counters.?
Currently, the Kempegowda International Airport handles? 2.5 crore passengers annually but after the inauguration of T2, it will go up to 5-6 crore.
Kempegowda International Airport's new Terminal 2 is designed to mimic the Garden City of Bengaluru, providing passengers with a "walk in the garden."
Passengers will walk through 10,000+ square meters of green walls, hanging gardens, and outdoor gardens, and these gardens have been made in India using indigenous technology.
Officials said that the new 'Terminal in a Garden' is set to boost BLR Airport's passenger capacity by an additional 25 million annually, which is only Phase I of the expansion project. An additional 20 million passengers per year can travel when phase II is completed.
Arrivals will take place on the ground floor, and departures will take place on the first floor at the newly built Terminal 2.
This new terminal includes special features like a lagoon with a large outdoor garden surrounding it, a multi-modal transportation hub, such as Namma Metro, solar panels on the roof, artificial waterfalls, elevated walkways, and green seating areas.
According to officials, this airport has already set a precedent for sustainability by utilising 100 percent renewable energy across the campus.Terminal 2 has been created with sustainability principles woven into the design.
Last week, Airtel announced the deployment of Airtel 5G Plus for all its passengers at Terminal 2. Commenting on the launch, Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel, said, "We have laid the finest network that will give customers an unmatched 5G experience. Passengers flying in and out of Bengaluru will not only witness the most modern and contemporary airport but will also get to experience the cutting edge Airtel 5G Plus service. While at the terminal, customers can now have superfast access to High Definition video streaming, gaming, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos and more."
PM Modi is also going to unveil the 108-feet statue of Bengaluru's founder Kempegowda which is designed by renowned sculptor and Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Vanji Sutar at the Bengaluru international airport on November 11.?
As a chieftain under the Vijayanagara Empire, Kempegowda was regarded as one of the most successful and well-educated rulers. In the 1530s, he fortified Bengaluru and developed it into a city. In the city, he planned a military cantonment, water tanks, temples, and commercial centers. There were eight gates on Kempe Gowda's fort, and settlements were spread across Avenue Road, Ulsoor, Yelahanka, K R Market, and Malleswaram in present-day Bangalore.
