The condition of animal shelters in India is really bad. There are not enough shelters to house street dogs and take care of them, which is why so many of them are left to fend for themselves. Meanwhile, a lot of people who choose to have pets, prefer to buy one as opposed to adopting, and even then, Indie street dogs almost never make it to the list.
However, Uttarakhand Police has set a rather admirable precedence. In a first of its kind experiment in India, the Uttarakhand police?trained street dogs?to become a part of the police force and the dogs performed well.

Tweeting about it, Uttarakhand Police wrote, ¡®A dog that used to roam around in the streets is the pride of Uttarakhand Police dog squad. This experiment has been carried out for the first time in the country, by the Uttarakhand police. When police trained this street dog, it turned out to be better than the foreign breed dogs that costs lakhs of rupees¡¯.??

The official handle of the Uttarakhand police tweeted a video of their sniffer squad with the caption, 'This sniffer dog squad is the pride of Uttarakhand police. For the first time ever the police has trained a street dog and made the dog a part of this squad as an experiment'.
If a street indie dog is performing as well, nay, better than foreign breed dog, then it is actually good news for the Indian police. Not only?will more dogs on the streets find a home of sorts,?it will also save the police lakhs of rupees that they would otherwise have to spend to get dogs of exquisite breeds.?

The dogs look really synchronized?and disciplined in the video, and it is marvellous that a street indie dog could inculcate the discipline just like the other dogs. The newly-recruited Indie dog is one of the best sniffers on the Uttarakhand dog squad right now.?
It is examples like this we should aim to set, as well as follow. There's no reason you can't be both kind and resourceful.
