Prime Minister Narendra Modi likes to participate in activities, and enjoy them, almost like a child does. On Tuesday, the country head played the drums and interacted with several members of the Indian community in Scotland's Glasgow who were there to bid him farewell.
The people had gathered together to bid the PM goodbye before he left for India after his two-day visit to the European country for the United Nations' COP26 World Leaders' Summit on climate change.
As he was on his way to the airport to fly back to India, he was greeted with rhythmic drumming and an excited crowd, who were dressed in traditional Indian clothes.?
The crowd shook hands with the leader as he joined in on the celebration and played the drums for a few beats along with the other drummers. He also engaged with the members and greeted the children as well.?
On his visit to Scotland for the UN COP26 Summit, PM Modi announced that India will dedicatedly commit to the climate crisis and attain net-zero emissions by 2070 and meet 50 percent of the country's energy requirements through renewable energy by 2030.?
PM Modi is known for his love for drumming. There have been many incidents before this when he has participated in some drum-playing. One is from when he visited Tanzania in 2016.?
Before that, it was in 2014 at an event launched by Tata Consultancy Services to launch its Technology and Cultural Academy in Japan.
He also had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the UK, Israel, Nepal, Italy, and France, during his stay. Before this on Saturday and Sunday, PM Modi had also participated in the G20 summit in Rome, Italy where world leaders threw coins from over their shoulders into the famous Trevi fountain, showed a video released by the G20 Italy. It is believed that if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain water, you will surely return to Rome.
However, the move was severely criticised by people who condemned the leaders participating in a redundant act and not actually doing anything about the climate crisis at hand. The internet was flooded with disapproving reactions.
Since last year, Italy has been holding the presidency of the G20, which is a prominent global forum that brings together the world's major economies. The members of G20 make up for more than 80 percent of the global GDP, 75 percent of global trade and 60 percent of the population of the world. It has been active since 1999.??
