Update May 23: After the video of the vendor went viral, people came forward to help him.?
It is believed that a crisis can bring out the best and the worst in people. The example of latter was given recently in Delhi when many passers-by robbed a mango vendor clean, in the middle of the day in north Delhi's Jagatpuri area.?
A video shows just about every one around, looting unattended crates of mangoes of a fruit seller, after a fight broke out in the neighborhood.
According to an?NDTV report, the fruit seller - Chhote - said that it happened after a fight took place in the neighborhood, during the phase four of the nationwide lockdown.?
He was asked by people to move his cart, but seeing his crates unguarded, people passing by took advantage of the situation and these ¡®masked¡¯ people came one by one, inviting others as well, and took as many mangoes from the crates as they could carry in one go.?
Not only did some of them put mangoes in their helmets (hinting that some of these people can actually afford to BUY the fruit), some called out to others to help themselves;?the video shows that the incident caused a small traffic jam in the area too.?
"I had 15 crates of mangoes here worth about Rs 30,000. They took everything," NDTV quotes Chhote as saying.?
For these vendors, like many others, business has been hit because of the coronavirus lockdown and the incident has left the fruit seller way worse off.?
According to the report, Chhote said he has filed a complaint with the police but they have not taken any action yet.
Once the video went viral, people did what they could to help the vendor.
One part of this story highlights the insensitivity of people, while other reinforces that belief that humanity is still alive in many others.
