Phunsukh Wangdu's character played by Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots is inspired by the man named Sonam Wangchuk. According to his own Twitter bio, he is an engineer turned education reformer, and one of the recent figures who has come forward to call on Indians to ban made-in-China products.?
In a nine-minute video, he appeals to the citizens of the country to ban and delete Chinese software (apps like TikTok) in a week, and hardware in a year (because flushing out phones and other made in China devices might take time).?
?Wangchuk's recent YouTube video is titled, China Ko Jawaab Sena Degi Bullet Se, Naagrik Dengey Wallet Se. In the video he can be seen sitting in Ladakh, in the backdrop of the Himalayas and the river Sindhu. He starts by talking about the increasing tensions at the border between India and China and stresses on the responsibility of Indian citizens to boycott made in China products.?
In the video he mentions that China is escalating tensions not just with India, but Taiwan, Vietnam and Hong Kong as well, in order to not have its own citizens rebel and express displeasure against the government.?
He says that to deter China, not only the soldiers but citizens have to contribute too. "Is baar Bharat ki bullet power se zyada wallet power kaam aaegi (Wallet power will play a more important role than bullet power)¡±, he says in the video.?
He adds, "Isliye agar humare desh ke 130 crore log aur baki ke 3 crore log jo bahar hai, sab milkar agar boycott made in China abhiyaan shuru karte hai to ho sakta hai ki sari duniya bhi yehi kare. Aur China ki arthvyavastha dugmagae aur uski janta roosh main aae. (If the entire Indian population along with the Indian living abroad, boycott everything made in China, it will have a negative impact on the Chinese economy and the people their will get angry.)"
He ends the video by saying that he himself will be flushing out Chinese products from his life eventually with time and that every citizen of the country should do the same to deal a blow to China.?
