This Navratri is also called Shardiya Navratri also known as Maha Navratri which falls in the lunar month Ashwin during Sharad Ritu (September or October). According to the Hindu calendar, Navratri is celebrated from Pratipada on the first day to Navami or the ninth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. This time the great festival of Navratri will start on Monday, September 26, and will be celebrated till October 5, Wednesday.?

Navratri 2022 importance?

Navratri festival is mainly celebrated with great pomp in the northern states of India, Gujarat, and West Bengal. On this occasion, the devotees of Goddess Durga observe a fast for nine days to seek her blessings. During the Navratri, alcohol, meat, onions, garlic, etc. are avoided. After nine days, the fast is broken on the tenth day. The tenth day of Navratri is known as Vijayadashami or Dussehra.?

Shardiya Navratri 2022 Kanya or Kanjak worship date (When are Ashtami and Navami?)

On the Ashtami and Navami dates of Navratri, there is a ritual to worship the girls or Kanjak’s. This time Maha Ashtami's date is on 3 October 2022 and Navami is on 4 October 2022.?

On this day nine girls are invited home for worship and people feed them prasad. These nine girls are worshipped as a form of goddess. In Kanjak puja a boy who is considered a symbol of Batuk Bhairav is also invited and fed along with the girls. After the meal, all the child goddesses receive gifts from devotees who take blessings by touching their feet.

The beginning of Shardiya Navratri is going to be very special this time because this time it is starting on Monday which is considered very auspicious. This time Goddess Durga will arrive on the earth riding an elephant, which will be very auspicious for everyone in many ways.? According to Drik Panchang, if Goddess Durga comes on an elephant is considered auspicious. It is believed that it brings plenty of rainfall for bumper harvesting in the coming year.?According to beliefs, Goddess Durga comes on earth riding different vehicles and departing on different ones.

In Hindu scriptures, each vehicle that riding by Goddess Durga holds a different and unique significance. According to Hindu scriptures, if Navratri is starting on Monday or Sunday, she will come on an elephant. If it starts on Saturday or Tuesday then she will come on a horse. If Navratri starts on Thursday or Friday then she will come sitting in doli and if it starts on Wednesday, she will come on a boat.

Mother Durga takes departure on different vehicles - If she leaves the earth on Sunday or Monday she will ride on a Buffalo, on Saturday or Tuesday, she goes on a rooster, on Wednesday or Friday by riding an elephant and on Thursday, Goddess Durga goes on a human ride.

Navratri colours 2022:

During the nine days of the Navratri festival, it is considered best to use the favourite colours of Maa Durga during worship. It is believed that wearing different coloured clothes to the Goddess every day, as well as if the person especially women adorn themselves with similar colour clothes and accessories during Navratri could get a special boon from Goddess Durga. This tradition is mostly followed in Gujarat and Maharashtra.?
