There is a deployment of police force in sensitive areas which include Maujpur, Jaffrabad, Seelampur, Gautampuri, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh, Mustafabad, Wazirabad and Shiv Vihar in the national capital.?
In Delhi's sensitive areas, eight companies of the CRPF have also been deployed in the tension areas. Senior authorities are keeping an eye on the situation and ensuring no further flare ups occur.
Clashes broke out between two groups of people at Jaffarabad in New Delhi on Monday after people in large numbers gathered to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Police fired tear shells as members of the groups started pelting stones at each other in Maujpur.?
Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police told media, ¡°Stones were also pelted at the police. The situation has been taken under control. Right amount of personnel have been deployed and are conducting flag marches.¡±
Clashes arose in the area after a huge amount of anti-CAA protestors, mostly women, blocked a road near the Jaffrabad metro station, which also connects to Seelampur with Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. The women were seen carrying the tricolour and were raising slogans of ¡®Aazadi¡¯, news agency PTI quoted a woman, who identified herself as Bushra, saying the protesters would not leave the site until the CAA is not revoked.
A CAA protest is already going on near the main Seelampur road and Kardampuri.?
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also tweeted and announced the shut down of the entry and exit gate to the Jaffarabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar stations.?
"Entry and exit (points) at Jaffrabad have been closed. Trains will not be halting at this station," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation tweeted.
