It doesn't get worse than this for Billboard. As if facing backlash for placing Taylor Swift second on its 25 Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century list was not enough, Billboard has now invited scrutiny over a major mishap that has Swifties enraging on X. The music magazine inadvertently revived the 'Famous' Kanye West-Taylor Swift feud with its recent announcement. This controversy comes on the heels of another facade surrounding Billboard's ranking of Taylor Swift as the second-greatest pop star in its coveted list.
What's the infamous Kanye West-Taylor Swift feud?
So, it all started when Kanye West, who now goes by 'Ye', interrupted Taylor Swift's 2019 VMA acceptance speech for Music Video of the Year, saying "Imma let you finish." Six years later, it seemed like the two had put their differences aside when Swift presented West with an award in 2015. However, the truce was short-lived.
West's 2016 song Famous reignited the feud with its disturbing lyrics, and visuals. Now, Billboard has revived the drama, unintentionally, we would like to believe!
Billboard's recent list of the Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century ranked Taylor Swift as the second best, with Beyonc¨¦ expected to claim the throne next week. In a video meant to celebrate Swift's achievement, Billboard stirred up controversy by including a clip from West's Famous music video, which features a wax figure of Swift in bed with West, rekindling their infamous rivalry.
Swifties, outraged for obvious reasons, have now taken to X to slam Billboard over their recent post, stating it owes Taylor Swift an apology.
"Okay, Billboard¡®s intention was to recap everything that happened in her entire career, i get that. But was it really necessary to include THAT scene? Just nasty, disrespectful and unprofessional," one user wrote.
'Using a revenge porn pic in a video which is supposed to highlight taylor swift's career, Chris brown's violence in an article about Rihanna, bringing up Britney's conservatorship abuse and Nicki Minaj's beefs just shows that Billboard is misogynistic asf. #BillboardIsOverParty," another X user added.
"I¡¯m so deeply disgusted and disappointed," wrote one Swift fan.
?Another Swifite mentioned, "Highly unprofessional of them to use a clip from THAT video while highlighting her career... Talk about a womans career without bringing men into it specially the ones who did her dirty, alright billboard??"
?"Imagine you have literally like what? 60 seconds to capture THE TAYLOR SWIFT 18 years of legacy. you have months to prepare it. it¡¯s going through several hands and approvals. your top charting artist. and you do THIS? nastier than we can comprehend," mentioned an enraged netizen.
Following intense backlash, Billboard removed the offending post from Instagram, and has now issued an aplogy.?
?"We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and?all of our readers?and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift¡¯s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her. We have removed the clip from our video and sincerely regret the harm we caused with this error," it said in a post on X.?
