Matty Healy took a veiled dig at Taylor Swift fans with an X post that read: "I think I sent my last Uber driver ¡®The Downtown Lights¡¯. He didn¡¯t think it was ¡®coded¡¯. He is employed tho."
?Healy was referring to a recent account where Swifties theorised he hinted at his past relationship with Swift after by posting a cover of the song The Downtown Lights by the Scottish boy band The Blue Nile. The title of the song quickly captured fans' attention as it is also mentioned by Swift in her track, Guilty as Sin, which many believe is about Healy.
In the song, the TTPD hitmaker croons, "Drowning in the Blue Nile, he e sent me 'Downtown Lights'. I hadn't heard it in a while. My boredom's bone-deep. This cage was once just fine. Am I allowed to cry?"
In his X post, the About You singer claimed that his vague post had nothing to do with Taylor Swift. Healy said he even played the song for his Uber driver, but he didn't assume it was 'coded'. He added, "he has a job tho," seemingly implying fans who propagate such theories on social media are unemployed.
