Taylor Swift fans, also known as Swifties, woke up to a long-awaited surprise as a fresh taste of Reputation (Taylor¡¯s Version). The reimagined Look What You Made Me Do made a dramatic debut during the opening scene of The Handmaid¡¯s Tale Season 6, Episode 9, and fans are already convinced that this is a signal ¡ª Reputation TV is officially coming.
The scene, which kicks off the episode, features June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) leading an intense handmaid-led uprising. As explosions go off and June narrowly escapes into a truck, the new version of the track plays in full force ¡ª updated synths, crisp new vocals, and that same rebellious energy from 2017.
The episode opens with June and her fellow handmaids moving with icy precision, as the revamped Look What You Made Me Do underscores every step. The track plays from the very first frame ¡ª a bold choice, but one that instantly makes a statement. This time, it's more confident and pettier, and this is exactly what was expected of REP TV. The re-recorded version keeps the original drama intact, but with a more polished, intense edge. Swift¡¯s older, sharper vocals bring new weight to the lyrics, and the production keeps that signature Jack Antonoff feel while giving it a modern finish.
Elisabeth Moss says it was ¡°the perfect song for the perfect moment¡±
Elisabeth Moss, who stars in and executive produces the series, told Billboard this particular music cue had been in the works for a while.
"I've been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show,¡± Moss said. ¡°And we finally found the perfect spot. I¡¯m so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment.¡±
Moss, who¡¯s a self-proclaimed Swiftie, even attended The Eras Tour in Toronto last year with co-star Bradley Whitford. She added that she had told editor Wendy Hallam Martin she was determined to include a Taylor track in one of the final two episodes. The credit for this particular placement, she said, goes to Wendy ¡ª ¡°for picking this track for this moment!¡±
¡°GUYS SHUT THE F*** UP LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO TV AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW HANDMAID¡¯S EPISODE. I JUST TEARED UP,¡± one user wrote on X.
¡°Whole timeline shaking to the LWYMMD TV snippet. We¡¯re so back,¡± said another. Some couldn¡¯t believe Taylor chose The Handmaid¡¯s Tale for the debut, but most were just happy to finally hear the updated version. ¡°Good day for annoying people,¡± one joked.?Another fan pointed out the timing: ¡°Taylor Swift sounds fantastic on the Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor¡¯s Version) snippet. I just hope she releases it soon ¡ª?Reputation TV?might finally see the light of day.¡±
Look What You Made Me Do originally dropped in 2017, setting the tone for Taylor¡¯s darker, edgier Reputation era. It spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped Reputation dominate the charts during its release.
Of the six albums Swift is re-recording to reclaim ownership of her masters, Reputation and her 2006 debut are the only two left. It¡¯s been nearly two years since her last Taylor¡¯s Version (1989 TV), and fans are now counting clues, and a recent cryptic website update hints that she may announce the Reputation TV at upcoming American Music Awards.?
This new Handmaid¡¯s Tale placement marks the second time we¡¯ve heard a sliver of Reputation TV. The first came in March during Apple TV+¡¯s The Dynasty: New England Patriots. Another small taste came even earlier, with ¡°Delicate (Taylor¡¯s Version)¡± appearing in The Summer I Turned Pretty last August.
