Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally broke their title curse, clinching their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in a nail-biting final against Punjab Kings. The 6-run victory brought an end to 18 years of heartbreaks, near misses, and high hopes for the Bengaluru-based franchise. As the team celebrated their historic win, a congratulatory message from former RCB owner Vijay Mallya, accused of an alleged loan fraud case, sparked a fresh wave of reactions online.
While Mallya has been closely monitoring his former team's journey, social media have seized every moment to troll him, urging him to return to India and face ongoing investigations by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, who once owned the franchise and is currently wanted in India over an alleged ?9,000 crore loan fraud, posted on X (formerly Twitter): ¡°RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well-balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!!¡±
While some acknowledged Mallya's early association with RCB, many on social media were quick to troll him. Users bombarded his post with demands for him to return to India and face legal action. Several even joked that Mallya should "repay RCB" or sponsor the next season¡¯s trophy celebration.
One user wrote, "Ee sala Bharat aaja."
?Another said, "Come back to India and celebrate."
?A third individual added, "Ab to trophy bhi mil gayi. Ghar aaja Pardesi tera desh bulaye re."
One person took a sarcastic jibe, writing, "Come and celebrate. You deserve it. We will declare bank holiday only for you. Promise."
Meanwhile, Mallya had earlier faced severe social media trolling when he congratulated RCB for entering the final after 9 years. ¡°Many congratulations to RCB for an authoritarian win over PBKS tonight to march into the IPL finals,¡± Vijay Mallya wrote. He added, ¡°Outstanding all round performance in a high pressure contest. Onwards and upwards towards the title. Play Bold.¡±
