White House defends Donald Trump’s Taylor Swift insult; Swifties call it ‘toddler-like attack' as Travis Kelce reportedly ‘livid’

The White House has weighed in after Donald Trump stirred controversy with a jab at Taylor Swift, suggesting her popularity has dipped since he declared his dislike for the pop star. “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT’?” Trump posted Friday on Truth Social.

At Monday’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked to respond to Trump’s recent comment on Taylor Swift. After letting out a soft chuckle, she said, “Look, he is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work.”?

Swifties weren’t convinced, and they let the White House know it

Swift's fans, better known as Swifties, did not hold back after the White House attempted to clarify Trump’s latest jab at the singer, dismissing Leavitt's statement as 'silly.'

“Maybe Karoline should check how many followers Taylor Swift has and the average 69,000 fans per night for her concert tour before saying something this silly,” one fan posted.

?Another wrote, “Trump: 750 people in line to buy Taylor Swift tickets! Guess she’s still got it in spite of your angry attack. Would they line up to your act?”

Others turned to Swift’s own lyrics for a response. One fan cited her 2019 hit You Need to Calm Down, calling it the perfect clapback to Trump’s “toddler-like” remark:

“And we see you over there on the internet / Comparing all the girls who are killing it / But we figured you out.”

?One comment that gained traction summed it up bluntly: “Trump desperately craves Taylor Swift’s attention, and he’s mad as hell she won’t give him a sideways glance.”

Travis Kelce ‘livid’ over Trump’s comments, report says

The backlash hasn’t just come from fans. According to a Daily Mail report, Swift’s boyfriend and NFL star, Travis Kelce, is “seething” over Trump’s dig.

“Travis is livid that the President of the United States is talking negatively about Taylor,” a source close to the Kansas City Chiefs' tight end told the outlet. “He is so mad that he is going to use it as motivation during training for the season ahead, especially if Trump continues talking.”

The insider added, “Since Travis can’t say anything publicly because that would just open another can of worms, he has to figure out ways to get it out of his system. He would love to protect Taylor and stick up for her. But keeping quiet is the move he has to do right now.”

This was not the first time Trump took a jab at Swift. In September 2024, the Eras Tour star showed her support for Vice President Kamala Harris and called out Trump’s campaign for using fake AI images of her.

Trump hit back on Truth Social, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” The tension has been building ever since, with the US president posting a string of public digs aimed at Swift in 2025.
