A high school senior in Texas just ran a 100-meter dash in 9.98 seconds! Runner Matthew Boling, nicknamed 'White Lightning', an 18-year-old senior at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Houston, ran the event at Texas's Region III-6A track.?
In case you're wondering how fast that is, let us give you some context. The legendary runner Usain Bolt has a record of running 100 meter in 9.58 seconds. So, this guy is just 0.4 seconds slower than Bolt.?
The difference becomes even more narrow when you look at Bolt's last Olympic performance - 9.81 seconds. Compared to this, Matthew is just 0.17 seconds slower.
Boling announced on Twitter that he broke his personal record. 'New PR and 100m high school record all conditions, 9.98', he wrote.?
However, Boling's 9.98 second dash does not count as a national record because of the prevailing 4.2 mph wind, reports The Houston Chronicle. The 18-year-old, in March, had completed the 100-meter dash in 10.22 seconds and in the 200-meter run.?
In a interview with the CBS, Boiling said he didn't always know he was fast, to get to where he is took a lot of sweat and practice.
Nothing happens overnight, consistency and dedication is key to success and Boiling attributes his achievement to it.?
