A 6-year-old child flying alone for the first time to see his grandmother in Florida was placed on the wrong Spirit Airlines aircraft.?
On Thursday, the child was scheduled to fly from?Philadelphia?International Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. The child was, however, ''incorrectly boarded'' on a flight to Orlando, which was four hours away from his original destination.
Maria Ramos, the child's grandmother, told Wink News about her trauma, saying she became concerned when her grandson did not board the plane in Fort Myers.?
''They told me he wasn't on this flight. He was late for his flight.' 'No, he couldn't miss his flight since I have the check-in tag,' I said. 'Where's my grandson?' I asked the flight attendant as I dashed into the plane. He was given to you in Philadelphia?'
'No, I had no kids with me,' she replied.
Later, the child called to say he had safely landed in Orlando. His luggage arrived safely in Fort Myers as scheduled. Ramos then drove four hours to pick up the six-year-old, describing the incident as one of the most horrific events of her life. Spirit Airlines offered to pay Ramos for the trip.?
Spirit Airlines apologised to the family in an emailed message to CNN.?
"The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them," the company stated in a statement provided to CNN.?
The message did not explain how the error occurred, but a spokeswoman stated that an internal review was underway.
