In a harrowing incident, a Georgia police officer was struck by a train as he tried to catch a burglary suspect.?
The officer named Andy Anderson was chasing suspect Jayden Moats, 18, when he was struck by the train and his bodycam recorded the chain of events.?
According to a press release obtained by CNN, Anderson responded to a call about a burglary at a home near the Norfolk Southern railroad track and after checking the home, the cop was walking along the railway tracks when saw a man carrying a television set and figured he was the burglar.
During the chase at the rail tracks, Anderson saw a train approach and assumed that he was out of the train's path. But he couldn't judge the size of the engine from a distance and ended up getting hit just as he moved out of the track.?
The video showed the officer being knocked into the woods from the train's force.? ?
According to?Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd, Anderson was so focussed on catching the suspect that he didn't realise how close he was to the tracks.
"We call that tunnel vision in law enforcement," Dodd said. "You get so focussed on the task at hand that you forget about your surroundings."
Anderson was released from the hospital on Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery.?
