A man from the United Kingdom boasted of being able to import up to ten kilograms of cocaine every month. He was arrested, however, for attempting to bring in only four grams of narcotics before his website was taken down.?
Metro reported how Wayne Withers' journey began. Wayne began using the username "Seasiders" on the dark web market Alphabay in May 2017 when he contacted another user named "Machismo" and inquired about the price of a kilo of Brazilian cocaine, according to prosecutor Mark Friend.?
When he was given a $20,000 (about Rs 16.44 lakh) estimate, the two began negotiating the sale and organisation of the drug shipment.
Wayne Withers received a "test purchase" of four grams of cocaine on May 25, 2017. Wayne, on the other hand, was dissatisfied with the purchase. He claimed it smelled like soap and said "I just need to get better at packing. I can lose 10kg in a month, but only the best will do. I'm willing to do 1kg the following week."
"I'm in it for the long haul," he allegedly stated. While Wayne had been looking forward to doing this for a long time, Machismo informed him that he was having difficulty transmitting his orders. He also offered to give the following cargo as a present.
The following time, difficulties arose. Machismo stated that he would use a "stealth method." As a result, Wayne became dissatisfied with Machismo. He denied any involvement in the seized parcels.?
"What exactly do you mean, mate? It isn't my fault. I paid you $6,000. You keep saying that they're seizing your packages, but that has nothing to do with me," Wayne explained.?
He said, "I'm not here to mess around or rob anyone."While Wayne was arranging for a large supply of cocaine to be delivered to his tanning ship under the alias G. Wilcox, the FBI found the Alphabay darknet market. It was later closed, and the court stated that no evidence of the second cargo was ever found.
Almost four years later, in March 2021, Lancashire Police raided Wayne's home in Sandyfields, Preston, and discovered two encrypted iPhones and three laptops equipped with dark web access software.?
Wayne Withers has claimed in court that he only accessed the dark web twice, and his lawyer, Anthony Parkinson, also pointed out that a significant amount of time had passed since the crime was committed, and Wayne had since never committed any other crimes.
After admitting to previous cocaine use, Wayne has been jailed for two years and eight months.?
