A Reddit user was left scratching his head after?he spotted a "blood lake" hidden in the sandy hills of South Dakota, U.S.?The discovery was uploaded by a user named?u/BlakeCakee.?
The screenshot of the bizarre discovery was shared on the subreddit?r/GoogleMaps?by a user, who posted it with the caption: "I think I found a Blood Lake in South Dakota..."??
The mysterious aerial shot shows a red-coloured lake nestled in the Black Hills National Forest.??
The forest, which is located in the west of South Dakota and borders neighbouring Wyoming, is a popular location with mountain climbers and campers, The Science Times?reported.?
But it has also been home to gold mining and timber production and one user suggested such heavy industry could be responsible for the discolouring of the lake.
This isn't the first time something eerie has been found on Google Maps. Last month, a user spotted a huge 'snake skeleton in France and the video had gone on social media.?
According to the?Independent, a TikTok account called @googlemapsfun shares videos of things they have found while exploring Google Maps.?On March 24, the account shared a video of a giant snake-like object found off the coast of France.? ?
"Somewhere in France, we can see something giant you can only see with satellites, hidden on Google Earth," the account states. "Users believe this to be a giant snake. It's about 30 metres long and bigger than any snake caught before."??
According to the account, the snake skeleton could be that of the extinct Titanoboa - a genus of extremely large?snakes.??
The video has amassed more than 2 million views on TikTok, and there is definitely a snake-like object that can be spotted on Google Maps. However, it's not really it.?
An investigation done by Snopes discovered that the "snake skeleton" is actually a 'large, metallic sculpture that's known as Le Serpent d'Ocean."?
